FROM THE JULY EDITION OF THE WHITEWATER FRIEND A Visitation Workshop with Maureen McCarthy September 10, 8:30 to 11:30 am Mark your calendars early and plan to be with us for a workshop on visitation Saturday morning, September 10. We will begin with a good breakfast, served by the Visitation Team, in Boruk Hall at 8:30. Then Maureen McCarthy, Chaplain at Friends Fellowship Community, will lead the workshop on how we reach out to people in the meeting, particularly those who are ill or otherwise unable to get out or attend worship. We will watch a video, The Grit and Grace of Being a Caregiver: Maintaining Your Balance as You Care for Others. We will talk about the importance of caring for one another and the different forms that this can take: home visitation, phoning, meals, car service, letter writing, help around the house, etc. There's definitely "something for everybody" in the way a meeting's members and attenders care for one another. As preparation for the workshop, on Thursday, September 8, we will watch a video, Wit, in our Parlor, starting at 7:00 pm. This HBO movie, directed by Mike Nichols, is about a hardnosed English professor (played by Emma Thompson) diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer. During the story, she reflects on her reactions to cancer, the treatments, and the doctors and nurses treating her. Along the way, she learns the importance of simple human kindness. Join us for and enjoyable and encouraging time, as we enter a new year of mutual care and service at First Friends. Community Service Sunday: July 31 "As the worship ends the service begins," the saying goes. Many here at First Friends are involved in various forms of service, in the Meeting and in the wider community. Our worship on Sunday, July 31 will recognize those who are involved in service, reflect upon God's calling to service, and consider how we might become more involved. Following worship, we will have a Forum on service, to discuss the issues more fully. Please plan to be with us for a time of worship and rededication.
