Report from the Visitation Workshop

There was a good turnout of 25 of us for the Visitation Workshop on September 10. There is clearly a real concern among us to share in the pastoral care of our Meeting. By the time the morning was over, we had renamed our Visitation Team the Care Team, since that is a more inclusive term for what we are about. People responded very well to the questionnaire asking what kinds of care they would like to offer. In follow-up meetings, the Care Team has re-organized our system to responding to needs in the meeting. Coordinators will communicate the needs in the Meeting to people who have volunteered to help in a given area. They are as follows: hospital visits -- Doug Gwyn; transportation -- Dick Meredith; shopping -- Joan Fishback; meals -- Margaret Inglis; odd jobs -- Lincoln Blake. Meanwhile, if you have other concerns or questions about Care Team work, please contact Lavona Bane, Barbara Blake, Joan Fishback, or me. Help us keep making the connections that make a difference at First Friends

Doug's Department Continues

In coming weeks Doug's Wednesday evening series will include a number of videos -- taped lectures, feature films, Quaker subjects, etc. These will include lectures by Henri Nouwen and Cornel West, documentaries on the Bible, and films such as Topsy Turvy, Winstanley, and Groundhog Day. Stay tuned!

Report from the World Gathering of Young Friends
Thursday evening, October 6

Last August, young Friends from all over the world met in Lancaster England to encounter their differences and share their visions for the future of Friends. Danielle Hoff and Rachel Stacy were among those present. Many of us have been waiting for a chance to hear them share their experience there. On Thursday, October 6 at the Stout Meetinghouse (Earlham campus) local young Friends and Earlham students in describing the Gathering and sharing their experiences and abiding impressions. There will also be slides of the Gathering (and probably some local sights from the 1652 Country around Lancaster). The program starts at 7:00 pm, preceded by a potluck dinner. Join us for a glimpse into the future of Friends!
